Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer causing death in women. The most important risk factor for the development of cervical cancer is genital infection with human papilloma virus (HPV). Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most commonly sexually transmitted infection, and there are more than 100 known HPV types, the majority of which are not harmful. About 75% of HPVs have been associated with non-cancerous warts (papillomas) on the hands, chest, arms and feet, such as low-risk HPV types 6 and 11. Testing for the most prevalent high risk types, is an important criteria in the prevention of cervical cancer.

Persistent HPV infection can cause cervical and other cancers including vulvar cancer (about 69%), vaginal cancer (about 75%), penile cancer (about 63%), anal cancer (about 91%), throat cancer (about 72%) are linked to HPV.

Product Overview

The f HPV typingTM kit is a molecular diagnostic assay designed for simultaneously detecting and direct typing of 16 specific HPV types by multiplex fluorescent PCR.  The kit uses 16 primers amplifying within E6 and E7 regions of the HPV genome of HPV types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68. The kit, which is intended for use on Applied Biosystems ABI PRISM® sequencers, uses a five-dye fluorescent system allowing multiplex amplification in the same tube for automated viral typing.

Main Features
  • Ready to run mix, just add sample
  • Allows high throughput of samples within less than 4 hours
  • Suitable for different samples such as fresh or paraffin embedded tissues, liquid-based samples e.g thin prep, anogenital and oral swab samples
  • A human STR (D18S386) is used as internal control to check DNA integrity and PCR inhibitors as well as troubleshooting of DNA cross-contaminations
  • Differentiates between persistent and new infections
  • The fluorescent PCR allows multiplex amplification in the same tube with less than ten copy sensitivity
  • All cervical cancer-associated genotypes are identified in one run
  • Allows direct typing of multiple HPV infections
  • IVD/CE Conformity to directive 98/79/EC
  • Manufactured to ISO 9001:2008 and 13485:2003
